William J. Haynes Sr., 74, of Hancock, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at home after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 16, 1940 in Shinglehouse, PA, the son of Vivan and Mary (Schoonover) Haynes. William grew up in an orphanage in Harrison Valley, PA. As a teenager, he was boarded out to a farmer. William worked many jobs, from door salesman to truck driving many miles, and across many states. Wherever he went, people fell in love with his kindness and personality. Later in his life, William lived in Texas and had lost contact with his family for many years. It wasn't until he was injured on the job and ended up in a nursing home, that he was brought back to Hancock, NY, where he spent his last years with his former wife, Ina.William always had a dog by his side, even until the very end, his faithful companion, Jack, was with him. Surviving are his former wife, Ina, 3 children, Candice (Duane) Bolster, Butch (Barbra) Haynes, and Tina (Jerry) Haynes, 2 step sons, Michael (Stacy) Thomas, and Luther Thomas, 10 grandchildren, Amy (Robert) Mastronardi, Duane Bolster, Robert (Tracy) Bolster, Valerie (Donald) Bolster, Eric (Ashley) Buchanan, Sarah (Stan) French, Adaline Hedlund, Nicholas Haynes, Heidi (Brian) Foster, and Madison Bolster, and 12 great grandchildren, Ellen Mastronardi, Kyle, Emily, Mariah, Alexis, Vanessa, and Natalie Bolster, Jackson Risser, William Foster, Caleb Mauro, and Liberty and Norah French. William is also survived by 1 brother, Herbert Walizer, and 2 sisters, Cynthia Stoneroad, and Frances Hulsizer. He was predeceased by 5 siblings, Theo Culver, Mary Haynes, Paul Haynes, Charles Haynes, and Curly Haynes.
